Lions Help Flooded Families in Spaulding Township

On June 2, you may have seen a truck delivering buckets of cleaning supplies to Spaulding Township homes that were affected by the flood.  Those people were the District 11-D1 Lions Club doing what they do best, “serving.” Together with the cleaning supplies, a $10 food voucher to the Big Boy in Bridgeport for each person in the family was given.  Hopefully, this voucher gave the family a small amount of relief after a terrible week of pumping, cleaning, sorting, picking, and disposing of soggy wet belongings.   Thank you, Supervisor Ed Masters, for identifying homes that were ravaged by flood water from the breaking of the area dike.

The Lions 11-D1 District includes Bay, Saginaw, Genesee, and Tuscola Counties.  The district requested disaster relief funds from Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) to aid flood damaged homes in those counties.  The grant required that those impacted by the flood be supplied with basic necessities.  As a Bridgeport Lion, Lion Eva Stone, owner of the Big Boy in Bridgeport was quick to accept the offer to supply food.  The $10000 LCIF Grant paid for the meals and the cleaning supplies offered to 190+ families in District 11-D1 Saginaw County.  Lions mantra is “We Serve” and Lions are happy to find a need and fulfill it.  Saginaw and Bridgeport each have Lions Clubs that serve the area and are looking for members that have a “Lion Heart.”  For more information about becoming a member, Facebook “Lions District 11D1 Michigan” or contact Lion Governor Harold DeMott, hlmd012@charter.net.
